Note To Self

A couple weeks ago Ben Rector released his new album Brand New. I was hesitate at first to listen to his new album since his last album The Walking In Between was pure perfection. But finally about a week ago I decided it was time to finally listen to Brand New. I could seriously go on and on about how amazing his new album is and how much I love it. I wouldn't say it is better than his last album or just as good but it sure does come close. I seriously can't pick one song off his album that is my favorite, so here are my top songs off his album: Brand New,Crazy,Fear, 30,000 Feet, Favorite Song, Paris, Almost Home, More Like Love, and Note To Self. I also love Make Something Beautiful and The Men That Drive Me Places. So basically every single song off his album is my favorite. I highly recommend buying this album or at least check some of his music out, you seriously won't regret it.

Anyways, the reason I am writing this blog post is because one of his songs off his new album called, "Note To Self" made me think about certain things in my life. The song talks about reminders and things we should be doing in life. I decided to create a list like he talks about in his song. So here is my list and I encourage you to make one as well.

Note To Self:

  • Keep choosing Joy
  • Pray more and worry less
  • Be more outgoing
  • Listen more and talk less
  • Be kind
  •  Laugh more
  • Say thank you more and mean it
  • Don't take your parents for granted
  • Not everything has to be perfect
  • Don't stress over small things
  • Think positive thoughts
  • Find beauty in everything
  • Forgive yourself and others
  • Remember everyone is fighting a hard battle
  • Be more flexible (or at least try)
  • Be more in the moment

I am going to probably keep adding more to this list and looking back at it as a reminder. But I also think making a list like this just shows how imperfect and flawed we all are.

Say Something

In my Bible Study we have been recently reading this book called, "Bittersweet" by Shauna Niequist. This one chapter I read called Say Something really hit me. The author was talking about how it is better to say something than to not say anything. When a friend or someone you know is dealing with something in their life whether it's the death of a loved one, an illness, divorce, job loss, or any type of struggle someone is going through just say something.

I myself have found myself guilty of not saying anything for the fear of saying something impolite or not good enough. I have had many moments where I would think of someone and pray for them and hope they are doing well but I wouldn't ask them or tell them. It comes down to really just the fear of not knowing what to say and not fully being able to understand what someone is going through.

In Spring I remember when my dad was in the hospital and how in that time I quickly realized who seemed to actually care how I was doing and didn't. I can think of some friends who probably cared but were busy with their own lives to say anything to me. But here I am saying that I now believe that this is true. Having someone say something to me no matter what it is, is better than not having someone say anything.
